One other thing that comes to my mind is simply setting cloud budget to ensure you won’t get any surprises after whole billing period.

Still, the problem might occur as e.g., setting budget in Azure in pay-as-you-go model can trigger alerts but you have still to react. You can script it but it does not come out-of-the-box. In case of the former, if you are sleeping, then well...there will be an unpleasant surprise waiting for you in the morning :(

I couldn’t believe that GCP doesn’t have this either and, shockingly, it does not! There are some hacks people mention, however, it shouldn’t be like this.

Yeah I know :/ and such “minor omissions” you’ve mentioned are lucrative for cloud platforms, that’s for sure. Anyways, thanks for the insightful post, hope to read more pieces like this in the future!
